Please Review the Law - Pedestrians in the Cross-Walk

Dunwoody Police have issued at least one citation in the last week or so to a driver who failed to properly yield to a pedestrian.  I saw this item today on the Dunwoody School Daze blog and thought it was a good reminder for everyone.

In more than 10 years of walking with my kids to school, that's the first time I heard of anyone getting a ticket for the constant illegal activity that occurs in our crosswalks every day. Thanks, John, for all you do and for sharing this info.

I think it's safe to say the majority of the people who need to see this aren't reading any of our blogs.
How do you propose promoting safety on the road to the general public in town?

I was trying to cross the street after dropping the kids off at school this morning. I thought for sure the police cruiser coming down N. Peachtree would stop for me when no one else did, but I was wrong. Of course, there still aren't crosswalks painted on N. Peachtree after the paving (weeks ago) so that's part of the problem as well.

Kirsten: I just stopped for a pedestrian about five minutes ago and was honked at aggressively by the car behind me. Maybe those rappers haven't tried to cross a street in Dunwoody yet. :)

Kirsten, please allow me to apologize for the officer? As far as the crosswalk, I have been told that the City subcontractor for striping should have this done by Tuesday. Fingers crossed.

SCOD, we could do outreach, training and enforcement in that order or simultaneously. Will be talking to Chief Grogan about this and Kirsten's issue. Thanks.

Patty :-)
