Autopsy in the Form of an Elegy

In the chest
in the heart
was a vessel

was the pulse
was the art
was the love

was the clot
small and slow
and the scar
that could not know

the rest of you
was very nearly perfect.

Song of the Open Road

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree.
Indeed, unless the billboards fall,
I'll never see a tree at all.

This is great! Arbor Day has kind of gone by the wayside, probably the last, hell, 50 years. Or maybe it's just been a school thing.

I remember being in 4th grade in 1959, and we planted a tree in the school yard on Arbor Day.

Where have you gone?
You flew away too soon...
