Dunwoody Council rejects "Suicide Center Lane" on Mt. Vernon

My video system malfunctioned so if you are interested, here is the city's link where it should be posted in a day or two.

Everything up for a vote basically passed as presented but the City was given "guidance" that the extended center turn lane on Mt. Vernon is not acceptable.  Turn lanes are OK where needed, with accompanying sidewalks and bike lanes also being approved for design work, - center lane is not acceptable and we don't even want to see drawings of it.

So the turn lanes are still being designed and built? You left me hanging..

What about the pedestrian islands? Are they kept in the project? They are traffic calming and enhance the safety of pedestrians. Would love to see them at: 1. ON the intersection 2: Mid-block crossings 3: At the BEGINNING of transitional areas, to mark "gateways". Also, add some flowerboxes in them / small greenery for ascetic purposes...

In Florida where the speed limit is 40 mph or less, their state standard is to include raised or restrictive medians that enhance vehicular and pedestrian safety & improving traffic efficiency. Let's make this the standard in Dunwoody, too.

Waterman, yes turn lanes are OK where needed, with accompanying sidewalks and bike lanes also being approved for design work, - extended center lane is not acceptable.

Joe, pedestrian islands seemed to be a toss in when three lanes were part of plan and unsure of future if only two lanes. I am in favor where applicable or appropriate. The city is scheduled to do a crosswalk analysis and guessing this will be discussed.
