ReplyDelete"Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords expressed similar concern before the shooting. In an interview after her office was vandalized, because of her 'yes' vote for national health care, she referred to the animosity against her by conservatives, including Sarah Palin's decision to list Giffords' seat as one of the top "targets" in the midterm elections.
ReplyDelete"For example, we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is, that the way that she has it depicted has the cross-hairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action," Giffords said in an interview with MSNBC."
Hopefully, the country will learn from this and cease the hate-filled rhetoric, and displays of fury toward progressives, and see how vitriolic dialogue in the public arena can incite the type of violence, which tragically occurred in Arizona yesterday. God bless the victims and their families.
(CNN) – As of Saturday, Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' name appeared on a website titled "take back the 20" as part of a list originally issued by Sarah Palin of vulnerable House Democrats. A map on the site showed cross-hairs over the contested Democratic districts.
ReplyDeleteNellie,
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ you that there is a lot of hate filled rethoric coming from the right. Just go to 750 A.M. They are completely right when they talk about high taxes and the huge debt ($14 trillion), but then they go on attack other people, because of their beliefs: political and religious.
However, I do not think this is right blog to be placing these comments on.
abhinav, this is tragedy of epic proportions to the political landscape in this country, where if it continues good men and women will be too afraid to serve and I felt I had to say something.
ReplyDeleteIt is similar to 9/11, Oklahoma City, or the two space shuttle tragedies where people even stopped to discuss it on shock jock radio, comedy central, or sports channels. I commented on this venue, as it has always been one of the most open and non-judgmental of the commenters.
