Councilwoman Adrian Bonser informed me that the City had installed the new traffic calming devices (speed tables), on Village Creek Drive, just off Womack. This morning I watched about six cars go by and as the video below shows, several of them were going pretty fast but most did slow to cross over the device. Video.
I was rather hoping that potholes being fixed and streets paved would take precedence over speed bumps. I've had to replace 2 hubcabs and had several wheel alignments in the last couple of years driving around Dunwoody. I guess it's "who you know"?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see the city add the speed tables - hopefully it does slow down traffic, although your video shows it's hit or miss. However, I said this at a city council meeting and I'll say it again, I think the residents of Village Mill should have pushed hard to have the Peeler entrance to their subdivision turned into a cul-de-sac. I know EMS is not crazy about that, but bottom line it would stop all the cut-through traffic and thus most - not all - of the speeders.

ReplyDeleteQuestion on this, Bob. These are public streets, paid for by taxpayer dollars, MY dollars. How can you deny access to public streets? If access to Village Mill were "cutoff" that would just divert traffic onto other streets. Is that fair? My guess is that if someone pushed this far enough these "cul-de-sac" projects could be ruled unconstitutional.
ReplyDeletebtw, no one pays attention to the one at Chamblee-Dunwoody and Valley View. The "island" is an eye-sore as well.
Dunwoody Mom,
ReplyDeleteTry slowing down. If you are hitting speed humps fast enough to knock you car out of alignment, and knock off hub caps, one would you realize you are DRIVING TOO FAST !
I can live with a pothole, but not with some kid being hit by a speeding cut through driver
Don't most of these types of speed bumps usually have white triangles painted on them with a couple of reflectors as well for drivers to see the hump? Will they be adding anything like that to these?
ReplyDeleteYes, I rode my bike down Village Creek Drive today and the tables were painted with the triangles and warning signs had been installed.
