Thank you for addressing Citizen Membership on City Boards. It should be open & transparent AND subject to GA Open Records. People should apply just like they would a job. With a resume, references and supporting background information. I asked this in January, 2013 to the Mayor & Council and also sent this request to the Charter Commission. Here's my ideas I submitted a year ago:

Joe, the Charter Commission listened to this concern and my recollection of how this matter was handled follows.
ReplyDeleteChanging a City Charter implies modified legal code moving forward, and the Commission felt that this idea should be left to City Council to decide, rather than having the Charter prescribe how to populate a Board.
If the Charter requires a Board to be populated in one way or the other, than any deviation is a violation of the City Charter, a serious matter.
That point is important because open and transparent Boards is a sound idea. There were several good ideas, like Public Town Halls meetings that make sense and should be done, but are better left to Council.
Hope this is helpful,
Max
Thanks, Max. Understood.. The procedure to define how appointments of board & commission members can be handled directly by the council.
ReplyDeleteDump Chatcomm. Stay with DeKalb Fire and use that savings/bonds for the parks. Storm water needs to be fixed even if it a tax increase. No center lane, Fran promised that roads in Dunwoody don't get expanded. Indy schools- press the board to accredit indiviual schools. Council efficiency-will that suppress the citizen's voice? Intersection improvements-hasn't council been talking about this since 2009? Paving-I'm still hitting the same pot holes and ruts. Shared Services-lately it seems the city wants to do it all by itself. New police cars-police are a huge expense and a service we shouldnt taken on. Weather sirens-more vetting over monitoring, who's responsible for activating, maintenence cost-other options?
