I stopped by Brook Run Park this evening to see how voting was going and at 6:30 pm there were three people completing paperwork and three people voting. I asked the clerk for the vote count and she stated that it was exactly 896 with a very heavy turnout as compared to previous primary elections.
If you are not going to be unavailable on July 15th or would just like to vote early, Brook Run is open and available for you to cast your vote. The hours through Friday are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
School Referendum
My wife who already voted was surprised & confused by the question below even though I discussed it previously. She correctly voted YES which should save us some tax money and I have copied an explanation that someone in the "know" posted to a comment on my last post. Finding information on this question is almost impossible and the DCSS should be forced to publicize the facts regarding these types of issues.
I checked with Marcus Turk's office (DCSS CFO). As I understand, this resolution is offered to homeowners as a means to provide some 'relief' when stakeholders support some combination of millage increase, bond referendum, and/or SPLOST. We agreed to continue SPLOST for another 5 years. The 'sunset' date for SPLOST 2 was December 31. This is the first opportunity for a county wide offering to continue the homestead exemption.
Since most homeowners are taking advantage of Homestead exemption, it should not affect the DCSS budget if citizens elect to continue this. Not sure if citizens request this at the tax office.
