On Tuesday, state health officials also confirmed a fourth victim, a 36-year-old pregnant woman in Dunwoody. The woman has an 8-year-old son who recently had mild flu like symptoms, but the child is now well, said state health officials. Her husband is not showing symptoms. The woman works in the front office of a warehouse that employs some Mexican people, but officials said none of the workers recently traveled to that country or had visitors from there.

Ford said it remains unknown if the illness has affected the woman’s pregnancy. The woman and her family have refused to take any of the antivirals. Dr. Les Richmond, acting district director of the DeKalb County Board of Health, said tests showed the people who came in “close contact” with the Dunwoody woman do not have the virus.

Richmond declined to identify the school the boy attended, but he said, “The child did not need to be excluded from school and did not need antivirals.” Richmond said the woman is no longer contagious, and is recovering at home.
