  1. The ever evolving CAD to CAD Interface
"The average amount of time needed to dispatch police calls has been cut in half" but for Fire/EMS the time needed to dispatch is an additional 90 seconds. I do not believe the "cut in half" analysis as I've never seen any documentation from anyone other than city staff. We were warned that Fire/EMS calls would take longer.
When this started we were advised, "ChatComm has a proven record" but the record is strikingly similar to every other 911 center in America.
Citizens were advised a contract w/ChatComm would cost $570,000 in start up cost and $1,200,000 a yr for 911 call & police dispatch service; " a fixed cost expense model". This eternal interfacing has proved that statement a fallacy.
Citizens were advised there would be a "dedicated call taker" , someone who only answers Dunwoody's 911 call. There is no ChatComm employee on the switchboard who only answers Dunwoody's 911 calls.
Citizens were advised Dunwoody is a subscriber and would not be responsible for tech upgrades, new equipment or unexpected costs. How much has been spent on this interface?
Citizens were advised ChatComm would eliminate problems w/wireless calls. Problems still exist.
Citizens were advised ChatComm would allow upgrades like automatic aid between Dunwoody and S/Springs but now the ability for car to car communication between Dunwoody & DeKalb is almost nonexistent.
Were the citizens thoroughly advised that DeKalb offered Dunwoody basically what they wanted a dedicated radio channel & dispatcher for no additional cost. When I go to the city web site to learn more about ChatComm I get a press release, a solicitation to sign up to product offered by Rave Mobile Safety and instructions on how to make sure my 911tax goes to the city. No status reports from Chatcomm.
Really did the Dunwoody need to pay extra for an automatic vehicle locater (AVL) program for a city of 12 square miles? With only 6 cars on duty did the city need to pay more for a “silent dispatch” program used by large hyper busy departments?
If Dunwoody had not taken this unnecessary left turn just how much more paving could have taken place or city employees hired?
