Saturday, May 17: Peachtree DeKalb Good Neighbor Airshow & Open House

There is no admission fee to Good Neighbor Day; parking is $10.00 per vehicle regardless of the number of occupants. All Good Neighbor Day access is only through Dresden Drive via Clairmont Road.

This is a great opportunity to see old airplanes on the ground, fast airplanes in the air and a jet truck explode down the runway, activities for the kids and the price ain't half bad either.
DNC Concert
The Nature Center is excited to bring back the popular concert in the park series, sponsored by Scuf Gaming. This is a great way to relax and enjoy your Saturday evening.

The first concert of the season features Danny Holiday. Bring a chair, blanket, and picnic dinner and cool off with the hand crafted beers from Moon Dog Growlers as you enjoy a night of rockin' tunes performed on the new stage! The concert begins at 7 p.m. and lasts until approximately  9 p.m.   As always, concerts are FREE to members ($5 for non-members adults, $3 for students).  Click here for more information.

The event, hosted by Doraville Parks and Recreation and held at Honeysuckle Park, 3037 Pleasant Valley Drive, has been a popular area event for several years now. It is sponsored by Chick-fil-A and McDonalds and kicks off at 5 p.m. Concession stands will be open, but moviegoers are invited to bring lawn chairs or spread a blanket and picnic on food and drinks from home. The movie starts at sunset, projected onto a 30-foot movie screen.

Your absence has gone through me
Like thread through a needle.
Everything I do is stitched with its color.

Daughter of the Poet said...

"A century after Shakespeare's death it was fashionable for men, otherwise sane, to ridicule the pretensions of the author of Hamlet to intellectual seriousness, and to apologies for his childishness. . .At present, a century after Mozart's death, we have among us men, only partially idiotic, who hold similar language of the composer of Don Giovanni. Now the truth about Shakespeare was never forgotten - never even questioned by the silent masses who read poetry, but skip notes, comments, and criticism. . .And the masses are similarly sound on the subject of Mozart, which is shown by the fact that Mozart will still draw a house when nothing else will. . .I anticipate the years will unfortunately always witness dunces ridiculing the authors of exceptional and perceptive villanelle to be no more than 'ink slingers', with only the daughters of the poets to defend them."

- George Bernard Shaw

Field Guide

No one I ask knows the name of the flower
we pulled the car to the side of the road to pick
and that I point to dangling purple from my lapel.

I am passing through the needle of spring
in North Carolina, as ignorant of the flowers of the south
as the woman at the barbecue stand who laughs
and the man who gives me a look as he pumps the gas

and everyone else I ask on the way to the airport
to return to where this purple madness is not seen
blazing against the sober pines and rioting along the

On the plane, the stewardess is afraid she cannot answer
my question, now insistent with the fear that I will leave
the province of this flower without its sound in my ear.

Then, as if he were giving me the time of day, a passenger
looks up from his magazine and says wisteria.

- Billy Collins
