In other news, I have been traveling for work and have had no access to City Emails for over a week but I hope to get that back on Monday.  If you have reached out to me via the City email, I hope to reply soon.

Wednesday & Thursday of this week, I get the privledge of attending the City of Dunwoody Council "Retreat" where we sit in a room for two days discussing important items like funding / spending policy, project strategy, service delivery with contracts that need to be renewed, Police, EMS and the Turf Field at PCMS.  Not 100% on the agenda as I haven't seen it (if it was sent via email) and it is not published on line for the public either.  I was given a 'save the date' message a few months ago which showed the location of this two day public meeting (in which I am forced to burn work vacation days for), as it will be at the Glen-Ella Springs Inn & Restaurant, 1789 Bear Gap Rd, Clarkesville, GA 30523, USA.  I do not believe this meeting will be live streamed for the internet to view therefore if you would like to attend, please drive the two hours to join us.  News reporters, you may want to get a room so you can watch us make smores over the firepit in the evening and then be onsite for the early morning conversations which might be interesting (in the hopes that you aren't there yet).   I will post more info on the "retreat" as it becomes available.

I noticed on social media that the Mayor is holding a State of the City address in the coming weeks with the business community, but don't know more about it except for what I read there & here

Dunwoody Solar Town Hall, Tuesday 7 pm at Dunwoody United Methodist Church to discuss Solarize Dunwoody - Home Installation.

Solar Town Hall

Tuesday, June 27, 7pm

Dunwoody United Methodist Church,
1548 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody

Interested in going solar? Want to save money and have the support of experts in installing the right system for you? Working together, we can make Dunwoody a leader in solar energy. Come to learn how you can help shape this movement and be a part of Solarize Dunwoody (@SunwoodyGA).

Solarize Dunwoody is a community based, PV bulk purchasing program that allows homeowners, businesses, and non-profits to save on the cost of solar together---the more that participate, the greater the savings!

This is a community input meeting where the coalition explains how the program works and asks attendees for input to shape the RFP to choose the vendor. Each attendee is given three stickers and is asked to place each one on a poster representing his/her top three priorities for the program. A friend attended the Solar Town Hall in Decatur and her top three priorities/program attributes were (1) overall price, (2) inverter warranty, and (3) community project. Other options might include warranty on solar panels, panels made in US, local workforce, etc.

Sponsored by the Dunwoody Sustainability Committee, Environment Georgia, Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, UMC Earthkeepers, and Solar CrowdSource.

Paint Recycling in Dunwoody, Saturday from 10 to 4 @DunwoodyNature Center

Paint Recycling
Date: April 23, 2016
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Thinking about doing some spring cleaning? Now’s the time to gather all of those old cans of paint lying around the house to bring in for recycling (yes, the old paint is recycled and used again!) during the Nature Center’s Earth Day Paint Recycling Event on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 until 4:00. Brought to you by the City of Dunwoody, for a fee of $1 per gallon (cash only), residents can drop off any unwanted paints and promote healthier air and water quality in the process.

Location:   Dunwoody Nature Center - 5343 Roberts Drive, Dunwoody, GA 30338

Latex paints often end up in the landfill. Chemicals leached from this paint can have deleterious effects on soil, air and water. Innovative paint disposal operations, such as our partners at Atlanta Paint Disposal, have provided an alternative; in addition to separating, bulking and filtering the paint to produce a reusable paint product, Atlanta Paint Disposal donates large quantities of paint to community beautification projects. Their largest quarterly donation goes to the Graffiti Task Force of Atlanta. The Earth Day paint recycling event is part of a larger effort by the Nature Center and the City of Dunwoody to encourage environmentally-friendly behavior among residents.

In case you were wondering ... bee keeping is allowed in Dunwoody, GA

It was Halloween evening and I am over at a neighbors house sitting around a campfire in the middle of the cul-de-sac where the group was happily passing out candy to those who begged, threatened, asked.  I was about to leave the gathering when a friend pulled me aside as he was very concerned that we (the City) were citing bee keepers for zoning violations and that he was afraid that we might be coming for his hive next?

I informed my friend that the issue did come up recently and in checking the City Ordinances, I discovered that we are completely silent on the keeping of bees therefore it was my belief that the practice is allowed as they were not mentioned or defined by City law.  Our regulations clearly state that the Ordinances of the City are the minimum standards requirements for the promotion of the public health, safety, morals and general welfare and that if the city attempted to regulate back yard bee hives that it would be over stepping its authority because the Council has not prohibited or regulated the practice in any way.

Legal & administrative staff seem to be backing up my opinion and as I told other council members, if push comes to shove on this issue - I am leaning heavily as pro bee.
