Message from the Mayor

All of the local COVID-related data indicators continue to move in the right direction. Locally, the number of new COVID cases remains low. DeKalb County (2.2%) and Georgia (3.1%) both have low test positivity rates. Two weeks ago, DeKalb County was at 100 cases per 100,000 residents; today, that number is 55. More people are receiving their vaccines, and we will continue the work necessary to get vaccines to those who may want them but face barriers in receiving one.

Fourteen months ago, I was invited to participate in a City Leadership Initiative focusing on crisis management. The access to experts on public health, economics, communications and more was invaluable. The connections made with and lessons learned from other mayors was profoundly impactful. Yesterday was the last day of this Initiative as the pandemic continues to ease.

COVID is not gone. Businesses and organizations can adopt their own rules and guidelines. I continue to ask everyone to take a deep breath before reacting or posting something on social media. Being kind costs nothing!

The Dunwoody City Council gave unanimous approval this week to a new Sustainability Plan prepared by the City’s Sustainability Committee. The new plan streamlines the 2014 version and updates the City’s vision of sustainability for the community.

“This is a forward-looking document with fresh goals, objectives and action items,” said Nathan Sparks, chair of Dunwoody’s Sustainability Committee. “This sets the framework for the City to continue progress on environmentally sustainable policies and puts even more beneficial practices into action.”

CAC's Tools for School

The Community Assistance Center (CAC) is already looking ahead to help local students be prepared to learn in August. Through Tools for School, the CAC is asking community members to consider making donations to help provide up to 1,000 local children with backpacks and school supplies.

Just $40 provides a child with a new backpack and school supplies.
