Who                Lee Remmel, Airport Director for Peachtree DeKalb Airport (PDK), will be leading a presentation regarding the proposed changes to Class B airspace around Hartsfield Jackson Airport and Peachtree DeKalb airport.

           

Why                The presentation will address changes proposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to restructure the Class B airspace surrounding Hartsfield. Suggested changes by the FAA include decreasing the lower elevation of Class B airspace to 5,000ft over PDK. The included changes will not only affect airspace near PDK but also the quality of life for those citizens living in the restructured flight paths. This includes neighborhoods within Dunwoody and Chamblee city limits. This presentation will aid in explaining the extent of the changes, the repercussions, and the best channels to support or oppose plan. Citizens of Dunwoody and Chamblee are strongly encouraged to attend this public meeting to learn more about these proposed changes by the FAA.

"If I Were Mayor, I Would..." essay for 6th Grade students

Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), "If I Were Mayor, I Would..." essay competition encourages 6^th grade students throughout Georgia to participate in this year’s state wide contest.

Twelve winners, one from each of GMA’s districts, along with their parents, teacher, and local mayor, will attend an awards luncheon in April. Prizes, including a $250 savings bond, will be awarded to each winner. GMA will also send a “Certificate of Participation” to each of the students who submit an essay, recognizing the efforts of each student. A statewide winner will be selected from among the twelve essay winners and will receive an additional $250 savings bond.

The contest gives students a chance to creatively use grade-specific language arts skills and civics/social studies knowledge. The essays may not exceed 350 words and have a deadline of Friday, March 5, 2010. Teachers submitting multiple essays can attach one entry form to the entire class's work; however, please be sure the student's name and school name are somewhere on the essay in case the essay gets separated from the entry form.

Dunwoody High School is ready for an addition and this evening I believe the community is being shown the same plans as in October. Feb 2nd, 7 pm DHS Cafeteria.

In my discussion with GPC, Pres Tricoli stated that Sr. Citizens can attend GPC for free but he forgot to mention that in his presentation to the City Council.  So please encourage Grandma to ease her 1976 Buick Regal onto Dunwoody roads, so maybe she can teach those young whipper snappers about driving the speed limit.

Dunwoody resident Michael Rothenberg has announced his candidacy for Judge of the Superior Court of DeKalb County and I wish him all the best.

The USPS now recognizes 30360 as now part of Dunwoody

If I had a daughter, I would be signing up for this, Daddy-Daughter Dance.

If I didn't already have plans for this Friday, I would be attending the Taste of Dunwoody.

If I was a State Legislator, I would be supporting this bill to protect children from Georgia's archaic laws.

To the residents e-mailing and calling my home to talk about the proposed cuts to the DeKalb County School System, please know that Jim Redovian is our member of the school board and that I am just an interested parent and tax payer who sometimes feels as though he is just screaming into the abyss. Remember the March 1st meeting, so mark the calenders.

Leadership DeKalb is now accepting applications and is also having an open house, I'm not applying but could think of a few good candidates.

The AJC is looking for permission to put a sign on their new Dunwoody HQ and it will be discussed Thursday by the Dunwoody ZBA.

A local media outlet asked for my dining recommendations for Dunwoody and it only reinforced the sad truth that my wife and I don't do much fine dining.

What: The inaugural Dunwoody Art Festival will take place May 8-9, 2010 in and around Dunwoody Village Shopping Center and on Chamblee Dunwoody Road in the heart of Dunwoody*. More than 150 national and regional artists will be exhibiting. There will be live music, children’s activities, food, and a host of surprises spread over two days.  *Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd will be closed to vehicle traffic from Mt.
