Dunwoody Community Bike Ride today 3:00 pm at Village Burger

My son Declan and I participated last month.

Come out for the next Community Bike Ride always the first Sunday of the month at 2:45 pm starting at Village Burger on Dunwoody Village Parkway. We'll have a short pre-ride safety speech and leave by 3:00 pm. Helmets are required and we recommend a bicycle with gears to handle the hills. The route is a 4.5 mile loop around Dunwoody - mostly right turns, less than an hour. Perfect for families and more. Event by Bike Walk Dunwoody.

Little Library in Dunwoody's Book Run Playground has been restocked.

This little library could now use a little paint to protect the bare wood. I know that we have creative artists in the community so if you have the talent & time to donate, I will pay for the supplies from my city expense account (if allowed). If interested, please email me with your thoughts, I will clear with city staff and if necessary convene a panel to possibly judge the entries. Thanks John.Heneghan@dunwoodyga.gov

Feeling the Love at today's Dunwoody Brook Run Trail Extention "ground breaking".

Today at the park event pictured above, I met a 72 year old man who hated the Dunwoody Brook Run Trail when it was being built.  He admitted that he now walks it everyday & said that he loves every aspect of the path, be it the width, the construction material, the rolling grade and the many new trees.  Because of his daily walks, he says that he's feels 5 years younger and then he thanked me for serving on the City Council.

I don't make many day time "ribbon cuttings" but this one was important and a few kind words completely made my day!

DeKalb Sanitation offers "back door pick-up" for free for those who need it as well as larger & smaller carts.

DeKalb County Sanitation FAQ - service starts July 6th

DeKalb County Interim CEO Lee May plans a series of “town hall” meetings to meeting with residents and to discuss the new county budget and the start of once-a-week garbage pickup. May plans to hold his Dunwoody meeting on Wednesday June 10th, 7 pm at Dunwoody City Hall.

Based on various questions asked by residents, I have determined two tidbits of interesting and useful information.

All customers will receive a standard 65-gallon garbage roll cart. Customers wishing to downsize to a 35- or 45-gallon garbage roll cart can do so at no extra charge. However, any customers wishing to switch to a 95-gallon garbage roll cart will incur a one-time $15 upgrade fee. Additionally, any customers wishing to upgrade from the complimentary 18-gallon blue recycling bin to a blue 65-gallon recycling roll cart will incur a one-time $15 upgrade fee.


Residents who disabled or elderly and are unable to move their trash and recyclables to the street for pick up may be eligible for a free special service called "backdoor pick-up".   Residents who are interested in the service need to contact Sanitation Department via this email: sanitation@dekalbcountyga.gov or by calling (404) 294-2900 and telling them that you need to request “backdoor pick-up”.

With a family of 5, I think it's time to invest $30.00 for the two large carts and in order to do that I need to call 404-294-2900.

Dunwoody Soap Box Derby this Saturday at First Baptist Church Atlanta

The eighth annual Dunwoody/NE Georgia Soap Box Derby will be held Saturday, June 6th. The event is hosted by The First Baptist Church Atlanta. First Baptist Church Atlanta is located at 4400 North Peachtree Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338, just outside Interstate 285.

Saturday's race will draw a record breaking 50 drivers who will compete in car divisions of Stock, Super Stock and Masters. 

Winners of each division of the local race will travel to Akron, Ohio to participate in week long festivities which will culminate with competing in the "All American Soap Box Derby". 

Super Kids: On Friday, June 5, from 9-12 The Dunwoody Soap Box Derby will also hold a Super Kids race. Racers with special needs will compete in tandem cars driven by certified drivers. The Super Kids race is the only one of its kind in Georgia. A record setting 12 Super Kids will compete in this year's race, and will also qualify to compete in Akron at the Nationals. This event is not to be missed. 

Speeding Police Cars: Cars sponsored by The Dunwoody Police, Chamblee Police and Doraville Police all have entries which will create a well-intentioned race for bragging rights all the way to the finish line.
