John, 2 questions:

1. I noticed the inter-governmental agreements with Dekalb for Fire and Rescue services begins January 1, 2009. How will the citizens of Dunwoody be covered for these services for the month of December.

If I missed it in the agreement, I do apologize.

2. Is there an agreement for Reycling/trash Services?

3. What are the chances that Vernon Jones will not sign these agreements?

As always, John, thank you for your continuing service in providing open and transparent government to the citizens of Dunwoody and your respectful responses to our questions and concerns. It's a breath ofresh air and this citizen much appreciates it.

The Jan 1st start date is due to the fact that we have paid our taxes (real estate and others) through Dec 31st, therefore DeKalb will provide us services for which we already paid.

The City has been negotiating with the County (Jones Administration) regarding a number of Intergovernmental Agreements (IGA) and the easy ones (Fire, Water & 911) are being hammered out first.

If you look closely at the bottom of the agenda you will see that there is item for binding arbitration on continued police services therefore on that item the City & DeKalb have not come to terms, probably regarding the price. No matter what, State Law states that DeKalb will continue it's services until we say we no longer need them. Dunwoody is required to pay a fair price for those services and depending on the formula's applied, the amount can be very different.

Other items still being discussed are sanitation and the transfer of property (Brook Run & others).

In light of the fact that the County promised 11.5 Million dollars of capital improvements during the last parks bond referendum to Brook Run, whereby we will be paying on those bonds for many years to come, Dunwoody would like to see the between 6 or 7 Million dollars still owed to the park.

I am not on the negotiating committee but believe that both parties are acting in good faith and will continue to do so during the Jones/Ellis administration change.

Thank you John for the clarification. Yes, I believe we all are looking for that Brook Run bond money that we voted for and were promised.
