R.I.P. Dick Drake, an influential behind the scenes mentor for the creation of the City of Dunwoody. Funeral is Tuesday at St Barnabas Anglican Church

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of being part of a small group of people who helped formulate the ideas and future of the City of Dunwoody. I assisted with preliminary transportation issues that the new city might be facing and had a committee of dedicated and knowledgeable civil engineers, one of whom was Richard Drake. I hold Dick in the highest regard as he was a determined, pragmatic, intellectual man with a clever wit and a quick sense of humor who continued his service on various city committees until his untimely passing last week.

Reading his obituary, Dick led a full life and will be sorely missed.

Services are Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at 1 pm at St Barnabas Anglican Church, 4795 N Peachtree Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338

Thanks for posting this John. As you know, Dick was, along with a relatively small group of us back in 2006 to form the initial board of Citizens for Dunwoody, which ultimately led to the eventual incorporation legislation and referendum in 2008 resulting in cityhood.

Dick was a great behind the scenes guy who really helped us along the way, and goes way further back than that with his record of being a part of the fabric of the Dunwoody community.

Thanks for posting. In addition, Dick with be interred at The National Military Cemetery in Canaton, GA on Wednesday with full military honors.

Lifetime of honorable service to our country and our community.
