John, regarding the few citizens who feel some negative impact by members of the MJCCA parking on their streets ...
1) The surrounding streets are only affected maybe two or three times a year at the MOST. It's not a big deal and no one is parking on lawns or sidewalks or blocking people into their driveways or otherwise abusing the privilege.
2) Let me point out that a far greater parking concern might be the parking abuses that take place throughout the entire summer at subdivision swim and tennis club swim meets and tennis matches. For instance, when there is a swim meet in Fontainebleau, cars are parked on BOTH sides of the streets and you can barely drive through it and there are NO sidewalks for pedestrians to get out of the way. A fire truck would be hard-pressed to get through that mess.
I am not complaining about this and I don't think it should even be a governmental issue; in fact, I think swim meets are a healthy and wonderful thing for kids to participate in, so I tolerate the traffic throughout the summer - even though I'm not a member of the swim/tennis club. It's for the greater good and I understand this. It's just a matter of people being respectful of other people's interests several times a year. I hope folks who live around the MJCCA will begin to demonstrate similar tolerance.
Ellen, I have brought up the same safety concerns regarding swim meets with cars parked on both sides of the road which directly impacts emergency vehicles. Our neighborhood watch / community relations section of the Dunwoody Police Department will be providing outreach to the swim tennis associations on this along with an action plan for event parking. Thanks.
Cool. Outreach is good.
