"Whatever You Say Say Nothing"

Smoke-signals are loud-mouthed compared with us:

Maneuverings to find out name and school,
Subtle discrimination by addresses
With hardly an exception to the rule...

Is there life before death?
That's chalked up in Ballymurphy.
Competence with pain,
Coherent miseries,
a bite and sup,
We hug our little destiny again.

R.I.P Isaac "Ike" Herrington

Ike was like so many people we see often - At the grocery, dry cleaners, and in his case, Regions Bank on Mt. Vernon. Ike was professional, polite, and genuinely friendly; a pleasure to chat with as one did their bank transactions.

Ike graduated University of Southern Mississippi, coming up from Mobile to make his way in Atlanta. I recall his first days at Regions.

He leaves behind family, friends, co-workers, all puzzled and deeply saddened.

Turns out he was killed on the same date and hour I was conducting Charter Commission, less than 500 yards away. I cannot shake this event from my mind.

Folks, take nothing for granted, hug those you love tightly, and be charitable toward those that may not see things the same way as you do - We are only here for a brief moment before we ALL go.

You deserved so much more, Ike.
