Msgr. Kiernan was at All Saints in his later years. I knew him as far back as St. Anthony's when I was in second grade. He had a siren in his car since he was police chaplain. That was my first big impression - listening to the siren and pressing the button in his car to make it work. It was always nice to run into him around Dunwoody. He was, as we all know, very friendly and had some funny comments. My best, recent memory is when my wife and I wound up sitting next to him and to Fr. Daniel McCormick (a teacher of mine from St. Joseph High School back in the 60's) at the Italian restaurant Oscar's Village Capri. It was great to talk with both of them that evening several years ago. Ellen and I had just been to my friend Fr. Al Dillman's funeral that day, and we mentioned to Msgr. Kiernan that we had only recently been talking about Al and that he had just passed away. Msgr. Kiernan quickly responded, "I hope you don't talk about me!" We had a good laugh at that and enjoyed sharing some memories with both of them that evening.
I remember him when he was at IHM. I was a young teacher there at the school... my first year. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a song in his heart. His altar boys loved him and he was such a great mentor for them. Plus, he expected respect for all the Church duties involving the Bless Sacrament. We love you Monsgr and pray for you!
