All of the local
COVID-related data indicators continue to move in the right direction.
Locally, the number of new COVID cases remains low. DeKalb County (2.2%)
and Georgia (3.1%) both have low test positivity rates. Two weeks ago,
DeKalb County was at 100 cases per 100,000 residents; today, that number is
55. More people are receiving their vaccines, and we will continue the work
necessary to get vaccines to those who may want them but face barriers in
receiving one.
Fourteen months
ago, I was invited to participate in a City Leadership Initiative focusing
on crisis management. The access to experts on public health, economics,
communications and more was invaluable. The connections made with and
lessons learned from other mayors was profoundly impactful. Yesterday was
the last day of this Initiative as the pandemic continues to ease.
COVID is not gone.
Businesses and organizations can adopt their own rules and guidelines. I
continue to ask everyone to take a deep breath before reacting or posting
something on social media. Being kind costs nothing!
