Radarsign proved to reduce speeding on dangerous North Peachtree Road

Radarsign installed a driver feedback display in “stealth” mode to record traffic patterns on North Peachtree Road without alerting drivers and recorded speeds as high as 68 mph. The display was turned on the following week so drivers were alerted to their speeds as they approached the school zone. It was determined that more than half of all drivers on North Peachtree Road were speeding in that first week. By week two, Radarsign cut the the total number of speeders by more than forty percent.

As a resident who drove past the sign several times per day, I personally witnessed numerous cars slow down to the posted speed limit when notified of the circumstances. I am a proponent of these signs and believe that they should be permanently installed near schools and other areas of concern.

In fact I believe these signs could be an first option for those streets who want a level of neighborhood speed control but are hesitant to install speed bumps.

Atlanta Colts Football & Cheerleading - Teams and squads are filling up fast. Don’t delay!

This will be my 9 year old son's fourth season playing Atlanta Colts Football and his 7 year old brothers second year of play. The two boys body styles are very different but football has positions for all types of players no matter their size or athletic ability. If your boys are between the ages of 6 & 13 I highly recommend the Atlanta Colts football program. Take a look at the video below (that was made by a parent on my son's 6 & 7 year old team) and see the many positive life skills that are learned on the football field. (PS: I don't have little girls but if I did they would be cheering for their brothers in the Colts cheerleading program.)

The ACYA has adopted a grade based league structure for the 2009 Season. Players will be placed in the league based primarily on their grade for the 2009 – 2010 school year. They must also meet the age criteria. Please note the age cut-off date has been changed from April 30th to August 31st.

The Intra-League (IL) is comprised of five leagues with players from 1st grade to 7th grade. All of these teams play at Murphey Candler Park. The typical IL roster will have between 15 and 17 players.

Online registration is open – follow the links at www.atlantacolts.com. Regular registration ends May 31st. You can also register during in-park registration days or download a registration form from the website. Football registration will be limited to a maximum number of players per league. When the limit is reached, a waitlist will be formed. There were many kids left on the waitlist in 2008. Don’t get left on the sidelines.

"Life is like baseball; we have to learn how to hit the curveballs," says Fred Cerrone, whose own corporate climb to the top could aptly be titled 'how to succeed in business by hitting curveballs.' While many of today's business graduates believe the way to the executive suite is by starting at least half way there and hitting home runs from the get-go, Fred has done it the old fashioned way. He started at the bottom.

From desk clerk at Boston's largest hotel, to managing operations for hotels throughout the country, to launching Hotel Equities, his own company, in 1989, Fred has learned and earned his way through multiple hits and strikes.

Already a general manager by the age of 21 and twice recognized as "General Manager of the Year" by national hotel franchises, Fred has held key positions with many of the nation's top hotels. He became a Marriott franchise partner, co-founded Day Hospitality Group (DHG) with Peyton Day, and after a successful 10-year run, he purchased the management segment of DHG and re-named the company Hotel Equities.

Cerrone is currently Chairman of Marriott’s Fairfield Inn Franchise Advisory Board, and also serves on the Franchise Advisory Board for Marriott's Spring Hill Suites. He is a member of the Advisory Board for Georgia State University's Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality and he sits on the Board of the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau.

A graduate of Miami Dade College with an AS degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, he also earned an MBA at Georgia State University. In addition, he holds the prestigious Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation through the American Lodging Association and Hotel World Expo & Conference recently named him Global Hotelier of the Year 2009, a most prestigious award that honors leaders in the hospitality industry. As "Head Coach" of his company's hospitality team, Cerrone has a passion for people, leading his associates to their own levels of high accomplishment.

Join us on Friday, May 8, at McCormick & Schmicks, for Fred Cerrone's formula to defining success, learning what is really significant in what you do, and finding the right side up in an upside down world. Reservations are required and seating is limited.

Did the DeKalb County School System skirt a stop work order from the State in order to keep the school on schedule?

During the heavy rains in early April, Joe Hirsch said, he watched day after day as mud oozed from a school construction site into a stream near his Dunwoody home. He figured that was a violation, and thought a simple phone call to authorities would get it fixed.

Environmental Specialist Kappitola Williams checked out his complaint. She found that the school system’s contractors lacked a construction permit. In an interview this week, she said that she could have issued a stop-work order with a monetary penalty, but that the school system agreed to stop work voluntarily.

Yet work on the site continued, she said. Hirsch alerted her and on Tuesday, Williams visited again. “They evidently just ignored it,” she said of the agreement to stop work.
