"Life is like baseball; we have to learn how to hit the curveballs," says Fred Cerrone, whose own corporate climb to the top could aptly be titled 'how to succeed in business by hitting curveballs.' While many of today's business graduates believe the way to the executive suite is by starting at least half way there and hitting home runs from the get-go, Fred has done it the old fashioned way. He started at the bottom.

From desk clerk at Boston's largest hotel, to managing operations for hotels throughout the country, to launching Hotel Equities, his own company, in 1989, Fred has learned and earned his way through multiple hits and strikes.

Already a general manager by the age of 21 and twice recognized as "General Manager of the Year" by national hotel franchises, Fred has held key positions with many of the nation's top hotels. He became a Marriott franchise partner, co-founded Day Hospitality Group (DHG) with Peyton Day, and after a successful 10-year run, he purchased the management segment of DHG and re-named the company Hotel Equities.

Cerrone is currently Chairman of Marriott’s Fairfield Inn Franchise Advisory Board, and also serves on the Franchise Advisory Board for Marriott's Spring Hill Suites. He is a member of the Advisory Board for Georgia State University's Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality and he sits on the Board of the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau.

A graduate of Miami Dade College with an AS degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, he also earned an MBA at Georgia State University. In addition, he holds the prestigious Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation through the American Lodging Association and Hotel World Expo & Conference recently named him Global Hotelier of the Year 2009, a most prestigious award that honors leaders in the hospitality industry. As "Head Coach" of his company's hospitality team, Cerrone has a passion for people, leading his associates to their own levels of high accomplishment.

Join us on Friday, May 8, at McCormick & Schmicks, for Fred Cerrone's formula to defining success, learning what is really significant in what you do, and finding the right side up in an upside down world. Reservations are required and seating is limited.

Dunwoody Business Network meets monthly to provide spiritual encouragement and ethical guidelines for men and women leaders in today's business marketplace.
