Dunwoody expands closures to gyms and athletic studios with hair stylists, barbers, massage and personal grooming on the Monday agenda.

Gyms closed now more rules coming Monday

Friday evening the Dunwoody City Council met to have the second read of the Emergency Ordinance and we intended to expand the closures to gyms and health club facilities but at the last minute, there was an addition to the agenda to include personal service providers that came in close personal contact with others, namely massage, manicure, hair styling, and personal grooming professionals. There was also an item on closing event facility businesses with people intended to gather more than 10 people.

After a detailed discussion, the Dunwoody City Council decided to approve the second read of the restaurant item and also approve the closing of gyms and health clubs as it was on the original agenda and vocalized to the community but decided to defer the other items to the Monday 6 pm agenda.

Based on the conversations today, on Monday the Dunwoody City Council will close all massage, manicure, hair styling, and personal grooming professionals except that massage would still be allowed to be provided by medical doctors, chiropractors or licensed physical therapists for medical purposes shall not be subject to restrictions contained in this ordinance. I expect these items to be pass and have an effective date of Monday evening or 12:01 Tuesday am.

Like all of  of you, City Council members have their favorite restaurants, servers, bartenders, hairstylists and barbers, therefore, decisions like those made this week are very difficult for members of the Council. We do not take our actions lightly but we believe that we need to formalize implimentation policy missing from the Federal, State and County Governments.

''Please be vigilent of staying away from groups and to keep social distanting where possible."
