Dunwoody High School to be updated with new auditorium. Meeting Tuesday night.

Tuesday Oct 6th at 6 p.m.

The School Council design committee and DeKalb County School System will hold a neighborhood meeting Tuesday evening, 6:00 pm, October 6, 2009 in the Dunwoody High School cafeteria for the purpose of briefing the neighbors on the plans for the addition to Dunwoody High School which is being funded through part of the SPLOST III allocation.

The addition will bring a renovation of internal HVAC systems, bathroom updates to meet ADA requirements, construction of 24,000 sq ft of additional instructional space and a new auditorium. The building will also have a new exterior treatment.

I strongly urge you to attend to see the planned improvements.

I attended the Dunwoody High School Meeting this evening and listened and observed drawings of what 15 million dollars can buy.

The front face of the school (Vermack) will have a third level of class rooms installed which will have all glass windows with an overhanging roof to cut down on the sun exposure. A 500 seat auditorium will be installed on the Vanderlyn side of the building which will force the move two tennis courts. Based on new construction space, other internal items will be moved thereby allowing cafeteria and other classrooms throughout the building to be expanded.

The entire school will have the HVAC and lighting replaced with all of the restrooms being brought up to ADA compliance.

The time line is as follows, Board Approval in Jan 2010, construction begins in March 2010 and it is completed by August 2012.
