Ashford Dunwoody Lane Closures Scheduled for Construction

One westbound right lane of I-285 at the Ashford Dunwoody Road Bridge will be closed for an hour Saturday (Jan. 28) around 10 a.m. for work on the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at I-285 and Ashford Dunwoody Road. The brief lane closure is required to secure the bolt pattern of the existing structures holding up directional signs on the I-285 and Ashford Dunwoody Road Interchange Bridge.

Weather permitting, beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Monday (Jan. 30) and Tuesday (Jan. 31), the left southbound lane of Ashford Dunwoody Road will close for night construction to remove street lights from the raised median. On Wednesday (Feb. 1), the right lanes of the Ashford Dunwoody Road Bridge, both northbound and southbound, will close for night construction.

In August 2011, Georgia Department of Transportation awarded a $4.6 million contract to E.R. Snell Contractors, Inc. of Snellville for the DDI project, a concept which was initiated by the PCIDs. The first DDI in Georgia, the I-285 at Ashford Dunwoody Road project is an innovative, low-cost solution to improve traffic flow and safety.

A traffic engineering project that makes sense, finally; I can envision it.
