The Atlanta Kosher BBQ Festival - Sunday at Brook Run Park in Dunwoody

 https://theatlantakosherbbq.com

BBQ Taste Ticket Sales

$1 per Ticket - Get ONE FREE Ticket with every 10 Tickets you buy on-line ($1.00 each)

As this is a BBQ competition, teams sell tastes of their competition Brisket, Beef Ribs, Chicken and Chili. A taste is a sample of the food item in a 1 oz container.

We recommend around 10 tastes per person so about $10 per person. We understand that a taste may not be enough food so in addition, we have Kosher food vendors that are selling full meals. They will take cash, credit cards or tasting tickets. They will have hamburgers, hot dogs, brisket sandwiches, chicken dishes and other items starting at 11:15 a.m.  Their prices may range from $3.00 to $15.00

Competition team food availability times:

Chili – 11:30

Chicken – 12:00

Ribs – 12:30

Brisket – 1:00

This event draws huge crowds but a shuttle bus will be operating to all surrounding parking lots - watch for the signs.

New O'Brian's Restaurant open for just under a month, with new owners and a caribbean fusion menu, may already be looking to expand?

It was a wonderful Friday night at the Heneghan household where the young couple relished in the fact that our three teenage boys were gone to various events or away at college.  We each had long day at our various day time professions so we sat under our magnolia tree enjoying conversation and an adult libation.  Numerous neighbors walked by with their dogs for their evening stroll, a few friends stopped and went, and another good friend stopped to enjoy a glass of wine as we got into some heavy discussions regarding the meaning of life.  Before you know it, we decided it was time to think what we were doing for the evening meal and the topic of O'Brian's new menu was raised.  Our good friend decided to join us for a meal to continue the conversation and we were off to O'Brian's Tavern for dinner.

As we walked to the front door a young man was departing and as we passed he turned thanking us for visiting during their soft opening, hoping that we would enjoy the food.  It turned out that young man was one of the two new owners.  As we walked in I recognized friends to our left but my bride saw friends at a booth up ahead, so as she is custom she immediately welcomed those friends had to know what they were eating and if I'm mistaken she may have even started taste testing the appetizer on the table.  After saving that couples appetizer from my bride, we returned to talk to our other friends to hear their opinions of the bill of fare.

The server was friendly if not chatty and knowledgeable of the food and we really enjoyed his quick wit; the busboy was attentive with our waters and as my wife needs to know everyone's story we soon swapping stories with a Dunwoody High School Junior who was doing a fantastic job for it just being his second day in the position.

We ordered a few cocktails and the bartender personally came over to clarify a point on the wine choice (Pinot Grigio vs Pino Noir) and before you knew it we were chatting regarding her Caribbean culture.  She then challenged us to guess her first name based on the clues that she is named after an island off Venezuela as well as a popular cocktail.  My buddy who speaks four languages, and has lived in various parts of the world then smiled, high fived me and turned to the bartender saying it was a real pleasure to meet you, Margarita.  That round of drinks were then on the house.

We reviewed the extensive menu and ordered the Jurk'd out Salmon Rolls & Spinach Dip for appetizers, I had the Parmesan Crusted Salmon over the creamy pasta, our friend had the Blackened Salmon with my bride only having the Tomato Bisque soup.  All the food was fantastic. We chatted with the General Manager who explained that there may be big changes coming to O'Brian's as this was just a soft opening.  There may be establishment name changes in the future, there may expansion of the restaurant into the vacant spaces next door and they would really want to expand outdoor seating too.  What they want to stress is that this is a new restaurant, with new owners and wildly different menu from what the previous other establishment offered.    Check them out as I think we'll be back later this weekend for brunch.

Could the new O'Brian's already be thinking of expanding?

Dunwoody High School Parents organize outdoor Homecoming Dance for Sat October 30th at Brook Run Amphitheater & Pavilion

RSPV Here
DHS Homecoming Event - Oct 30th, 7:00 pm
Brook Run Amphitheater

The Dunwoody City Council was contacted by a group of concerned Dunwoody High School Parents let by Ms. Elma Orr that the DeKalb School System canceled any and all plans to support a traditional homecoming celebration on school property.  The DHS Homecoming game is on the 23rd but the best outdoor location being the new Brook Run Amphitheater and Pavilion was booked for another event that evening therefore the parents decided to rent (at a highly discounted rate) the Brook Run Amphitheater & Pavilion for Saturday October 30th.

A GoFundMe site was started and DHS parents quickly covered the basic needs to make this event a reality with no additional costs to the students.  Additional funds if received would go towards extras like drinks and refreshments.

The committee is reviewing various aspects of the event including security coverage to ensure the event runs smoothly and the kids have a great time.

The committee would now like to spread the word to the Parents and Students at Dunwoody High School to please support this event if interested in doing so and the committee would kindly like your RSPV on the evite system.   Thanks

Proposed DeKalb School Changes as Preliminary Master Plan is released, DHA Candidate Forum on Oct 13th, New Dunwoody Park Plans include Splash Pads and Girls Softball Facilities

Preliminary - DeKalb County School System Comprehensive Master Plan

For our cluster, the DeKalb County School System suggests turning Austin and the new Shallowford (to be built on Chamblee Dunwoody in Georgetown) into K-8, adding an Early Learning Center to Kingsley, rebuilding Hightower and redistricting the new Shallowford and Hightower students to the Chamblee Cluster. This will reduce both Peachtree and Dunwoody student populations. Note there are no planned projects suggested for Peachtree or Dunwoody High School, and only new HVAC systems for Chesnut and Kingsley. Also, note that nothing seems to change for at least two years as the construction of Shallowford is two years out and Hightower is 5 plus years out.  More information will be coming on October 26th during the Regional Townhall - link below.

 Halloween

One more thing - Briers North will not be hosting Halloween crowds this year

Halloween 2021 Cancellation in the Briers North Subdivision off Tilly Mill

Due to Covid-19, we again made a decision to cancel trick-or-treating this year in Briers North. Our traditional Halloween candy and decorations will be absent. We will revisit the situation next year - hopefully we will be able to resume in 2022.  If you've never been, it was always quite a sight, and kudos to the many families who would put on this event year after year.
