One
of the most common calls for service for the Dunwoody Police Department
is a security alarm call. In 2012, officers responded to 4,317 alarm
calls, which was an increase of 6.3% when compared to alarm calls in
2011. Alarm calls consume a great deal of resources and the majority of
them are false. This ongoing problem of false alarms is a drain on the
department’s limited resources and is costly to the residents and
business owners in Dunwoody.
On January 28, 2013, the City of Dunwoody adopted an ordinance amending Chapter 24 of the City Code by adopting regulations governing false alarms in the City of Dunwoody. Listed below is the adopted alarm ordinance as well as the resolution adopting the false alarm fee schedule.

2013 Dunwoody False Alarm Resolution
All residential and commercial alarms must be registered and a permit will be issued. There is no registration cost for residential alarm users. However, there is a $25.00 charge for commercial alarm users. Residents and businesses have until Oct. 1, 2013 to register their alarm systems in order to avoid the $100 non-registration penalty. This registration must be renewed annually. Fire alarms and medical alarms are excluded from this registration requirement.
The City of Dunwoody has contracted with a third party vendor, Public Safety Corporation, which utilizes its own comprehensive tracking and billing system called CryWolf®, to implement and manage our false alarm program. CryWolf ® has created a web portal for the City of Dunwoody to process registrations, renewals and payments.

Make sure you have something else to do while filling out the form. The site is extremely slow.
I'm on my second attempt at filling the form out ... I got to the last page and submitted (after about a half hour of waiting on each page to load) and got a "web page not found" error. This needs to be fixed.
James,
On behalf of the City of Dunwoody please accept my apology for the poor level of service that we are providing you.
I have heard many complaints, guessing because of the companies’ servers are being overworked because the company is now registering many cities at once.
I have asked staff if there a solution other than delaying implementation, so other cities residents can deal with the issues until this contractor either improves the computer system or the server demand lessens.
The City will be evaluating the situation and looking for solutions.
Solution:
.NET is not necessarily your friend.
DotNetNuke has known performance issues of exactly this kind.
If the company is registering several cities' worth of data at once, a PHP-based solution could have run faster and still be deployed on MS IIS7.
In my humble and personal opinion, of course. ;-)
Actually the latency is occurring on the API call and a PHP based solution would have increased the delay. Additionally, DotNetNuke has no more documented performance issues than any other content management system. I believe the biggest complaint used to be its guidelines were a bit difficult for the neophyte to comprehend.
The systems of alarms work as a fine method of defense against the intruders. But most of the homeowners forget to maintain a routine check of these Security Alarms after installing them. This is a common mistake done by most of the people. Routine maintenance is essential for this type of complex product or system.
